Poker War Story - Beware!
Here’s a cautionary poker war story for you, one that happened to me in a LIVE poker tourney.
There were 90 players in the game, the buy in was $200. Anyway after almost 6hrs of play we were down to 2 tables and it was looking good….until I did what I did that cost me the pot!
There were 14 players left and I was the chip leader with almost 100,000. Keep in mind here that the game started with 5,000 from 90 players, that’s what 450,000 in chips!
At this point the game can change so fast because we were trying to take out 4 more players. What I did and I will remember is let the short stacks battle. I had so much money I didn’t need to play a hand unless I had AA.
What I did was try and take out the short stacks and ended up going broke and I was the Bubble. Lesson - never get so involved in a game that you forget what you’re there for which is making money and winning the game.
I got catch fever up so bad that before I knew it I was out. The moral of this story is THINK before you play especially when you’re that close to the money. Overconfidence and arrogance kills.
