Free Online Poker Guide to Common Mistakes

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

With the popularity of poker in today’s society, and a growing interest in free online poker, there is a plethora of information to help one better themselves and become more educated to the game. Many books are available, written by professional poker players, enabling you to develop the skills you need to improve your game.

There are also plenty of available tools which are designed to help you, such as software to analyze other players style of play and online odds calculators. These tools are there to help you improve your skills, but there are also some pragmatic tips to help you survive the tables.

One useful tip is to reduce the number of hands played. This is a common mistake in poker. Playing too many hands depletes your bankroll rapidly by buying into a hand only to fold when the flop is unfavourable. Even worse, is the money lost in chasing and get tired to the hand because you caught a part of the flop. This style of play is detrimental to your bankroll and can cost you dearly. The dangers of playing too many hands are greater than the rewards.

Another common mistake when playing poker, is to over value a big pair. If you are holding a big pair and there is an over card on the board, then the best option is to fold. Over valuing and continuing to call bets with a big pair can only deplete you bankroll. If someone is betting, and your big pair is not materializing, you are probably beat. Identifying that big pairs don’t always win, will help you to fold and hold onto your bankroll. Not committing your whole stack to a big pair in poker is wise and smart free online poker play.

Thirdly, another tip is to recognize tilting symptoms and get away from the game. Tilting is an emotional disturbance or upset and can lead to disastrous results when incurred. Recognizing tilting symptoms is the first step. The next step is to recover from tilting by getting up and walk away from the game and take a break. This break will allow you to recover from the tilt and remove the emotions. It will also save you from making additional mistakes that will have a negative impact on your bankroll. Understanding that there is “no justice” in poker will help you overcome bad beats and prevent you from tilting.

The tips I have listed may seem like common sense, but many poker players do not adhere to them. By taking note of these tips, you will manage to hold onto your bankroll and increase your profit. There are hundreds of tips available and ways to hone yourself into becoming a great poker player, but understanding the common sense strategies will help you avoid the negative impact on your bankroll.

Playing free online poker games is a brilliant way to learn how to play poker and make real money without any risk to your own finances.

Take note of these tips and you should be beating the other players in no time!

Free Poker Online How to Know When To Quit

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I’ll admit that I’m not the best person to talk to about quitting a game when playing free poker online. I find that I spend more time playing cash games when I am losing than when I am winning. This is something that needs improving in my game, and I need to learn to walk away when I am losing. Quitting isn’t easy, and knowing when to quit is a skill that’s not easy to learn. There are obviously no clear rules about quitting that need be followed, but there are factors that you should consider when you’re in the middle of a cash game session.

Fatigue

You always want to play your “A” game. You want to play when you can focus without worrying about falling asleep. I’m not a big advocate of short sessions, but I’m definitely an advocate for playing when you’re not sleepy. Free poker online is way too easy to play nowadays without even leaving the house, leaving you more vulnerable to playing when tired.

You should be aware of when your energy is waning and think about quitting. Trust me: Players will know when you’re playing fatigued-especially in live play. I would also suggest that you avoid talking to other players about how long you’ve been playing or how many hours you’ve worked during the day. The sharks will smell the blood in the water and take advantage of you. If you’re tired, you should quit.

Fish

If you are playing players who are particularly bad, then you want to try to play longer games. Chances are, if the bad players have been playing for a long time, they are going to get tired, going back to what I was saying earlier about playing when exhausted. They will play even worse, and although you also be off your game, you will still play better than they will.

Some people make the mistake of quitting too soon when they’re ahead. If you’re winning and playing weak opponents, you should keep playing for as long as you can.

Tilt

Some people have poor tilt control. If you’re prone to tilting, you should seriously consider quitting a session as soon as suffer a bad beat. I know this advice is a bit extreme, but you always need to remember that money saved is money earned. When you’re tilting, you’re not playing your best game and will likely end up losing a lot of money. For those who have better tilt control, you may not need to quit. You may just need to step away from the table for a bit to clear your head before returning to continue the session.

If you don’t know when you’re tilting, I suggest bringing friends along with you to the table who understand you and your game. You should tell them to take you aside when they notice that you’re tilting.

Running Bad

In poker, there will always be games that you just won’t win. Whether you have the best hand or not. We have all been there and its just part of the game.

When things don’t go your away, you should consider leaving your session. This is even truer for people with tilt issues. Taking bad beats will leave you feeling frustrated and will take you off your game.

Running Away From Problems

There are times in all of our lives where we feel troubled on personal matters. Nobody should gamble to avoid issues elsewhere in your life. Always try to sort out problems before taking part in a poker game.

So, if you are ever feeling any of the above then chances are, it is time to get out, whether you are playing free poker online games, or poker in a casino.

Free Online Poker Life Experiences of Sit n Go’s

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

I was brought up playing poker. My mum taught me how to play at a very young age and have been playing ever since. It doesn’t matter whether I am playing free online poker or playing in a large money game, I still need to win. I even have to win when playing against (and also teaching) my 7 year old son! This was down to my mother never letting me win a game. I hated it, but it has made me a very good player.

I live in the NJ area, and for years I have played in local games and many trips to Atlantic City. I’m kinda new to the online game, but love it!

I’m a no limit player, who loves playing heads up and also enjoy playing sit and go’s. My play is strong, but for me, the hardest part of being a GREAT player is trying to control my emotions. I often find myself trying to head hunt after another player tries to bluff… and then shows me his cards. I hate being shown up by another player. I always like to get my own back where possible and I find the best way to do this is to beat them and take their money. I don’t play foolish hands, I find it too risky.

I’m mostly a limp in guy, who like to slow play people, and “let them hang themselves”. But I know the best way to reach my goals is to switch it up, never let them get a read on me.

I try not to let the “odds” detail get the better of me. I try not to pay attention to the better percentage of winning hands. Although I have a good idea what they are, I try to play with my gut feeling as much as I can. I go with what I feel the situation calls for. It is much harder to get a read on people when you can’t see their face, so again, go with my gut.

New poker players fascinate me and make me look back at how I was 25 years ago. They all think that they are the best, but in a few years time will look back and laugh at themselves.

I love playing free online poker and spend hours each day online. The poker world is a VERY tough game, and I learn everyday from others and from many mistakes I make, but that’s what it’s all about, try your best and good things will happen.
